Fort Ord Coastal Access

Monterey County, California

Zander Westbrook Design is working with EMC Planning Group and Sherwood Design Engineers in designing trail improvements to enhance coastal access at Fort Ord Dunes State Park. The project includes improving a 1,500-foot beach access trail, implementing an accessible overlook area, adding benches, and enhancing directional and interpretive signage. Additionally, the project aims to restore dunes and mitigate ecological disturbances to the site.

Fort Ord Dunes State Park encompasses coastal areas of the closed Fort Ord, a United States Army installation, along a 4-mile coastline on Monterey Bay. The park includes a boardwalk, a path to the beach, a road for walking and biking, as well as interpretive exhibits describing its former use. All public access is designed to protect the dunes that are a nesting area for sensitive species.
