San Gregorio Ranch Public Access

San Gregorio, California

Zander Westbrook Design is supporting the Peninsula Open Space Trust in preparing this 200-acre coastal property for public use as part of San Gregorio State Beach. The site will provide a critical connection between public beaches in the area and has the potential to close a significant gap in the California Coastal Trail.

Our team developed plans for maintenance-level improvements and oversaw the construction of an all-season road and parking, accessible picnic and restroom facilities, beach access, and entry improvements in the SR 1 right-of-way. We also prepared longer-term conceptual plans for future Coastal Trail and access improvements.

The project balances public access, environmental stewardship, and regulatory requirements while establishing a strong foundation for the site’s long-term management.

The San Gregorio Ranch Public Access Improvement Project aims to provide safe, year-round public beach access and parking while preserving the site’s natural, scenic, and agricultural resources. Located adjacent to San Gregorio State Beach, the project will improve access through roadway maintenance, visitor amenities, and resource protection measures, ultimately supporting the future integration of the property into public ownership and recreation management.
