Presidio Coastal Trail and Lobos Creek Restoration

San Francisco, California

Zander Westbrook Design worked with the Golden Gate National Park Conservancy to improve visitor access and habitat restoration near Baker Beach. The project involved preparing conceptual plans for new transit and trail connections, increased parking density, and accessibility improvements, as well as planning-level maps of the area to illustrate project connections and inform prioritization. Zander Westbrook Design also coordinated with the project’s cost estimator and restoration ecologist to better understand the scope and costs of future projects and was responsible for clearly communicating these aspects to a non-technical audience of potential supporters.

The 2.7-mile segment through the Presidio connects Baker Beach to the Golden Gate Bridge and is part of the 1,200-mile route that stretches along the Pacific coastline from Mexico to Oregon. Lobos Creek runs from runoff in the Presidio and Seacliff areas and underground seepage from springs that form Mountain Lake to the Pacific Ocean, forming the division between Baker Beach and China Beach. The Lobos Creek restoration is a significant effort to restore the natural ecosystem of the Presidio in San Francisco.
